Our Kids

City of Angels is a ministry that has transformed over 25 years of hard work.

We began sheltering children of very limited resources, children of prostitutes, or children who came from homes filled with drugs, addiction, and abuse. For many years, our home functioned solely as an orphanage, housing 40 children. Supporting more than 300 children at different times, providing them with decent housing and lots of love.

More than 10 years ago, we decided to bring a fresh dynamic and, with that, extend our help not only to the children but also to their families so they could move forward together.

Currently, we have orphaned children whom we are raising as a family, and we support more than 80 children each month directly, along with their families, providing the basic necessities to keep them together.

Isn’t this crazy? We are an orphanage fighting to ensure that fewer and fewer children end up on our doorsteps as interns.

FAMILIES DESERVE TO STAY TOGETHER, AND FOOD OR THE MOST BASIC THINGS SHOULD NOT BE A REASON TO LEAVE THEIR KIDS.

In Tijuana, many of the children housed in institutions and orphanages do have families, but they often lack the necessary resources to provide for their children with dignity, and that’s when they decide to take them to a shelter.

At COA, we have many different branches of work:

Orphanage: Where we shelter children who truly have no one but us.

Community Center: Where we provide clothing, food, shoes, prayer, and support to families and our Tecolote community.

Community Program: We select 15 families with approximately 40 children and provide them with basic necessities year-round (clothing, food, school supplies, shoes, and much more).

Coffee Shop: We provide our youth with their first job, teach them values, hard work, responsibility, and commitment, and at the same time provide for the ministry.

Special Services: We open our home to offer the community a service of God’s Word, food, and community.

Mission Trips: We plan and organize mission trips for families, churches, groups of friends, or coworkers. We show them the experience of doing a project or coming to spend an incredible time with our children.

English Classes: We provide English classes every week to more than 20 students. We believe in the power of knowledge and how they can get better jobs with this skill.

Special Events: We love celebrating important dates. That’s why on Children’s Day, Summer, Christmas, and other holidays, we open our doors to more than 100 children to enjoy themselves and bring gifts, food, and a big community celebration where many children who don’t have the opportunity to do so at home can join us.

Testimonials

“My husband and I have been working with City of Angels orphanage for almost 2 years. First we were coming weekly with a team to do a children’s program and then we transitioned to bringing them groceries monthly. We have grown a friendship with both the Directors and the kids over the years. The Directors have an amazing heart for seeing families reunited and in an area where its hard to find trustworthy people they are truly in it just for the kids. They are some of the best people we know! The kids are beautiful, friendly, happy, well-mannered and are a testament to the good care and training they receive living at City of Angels. I would encourage anybody to visit, bring a team, or financially support this orphanage. They are doing a great job!”

“Hi, I am Lynn. I have enjoyed 4 or 5 visits to COA over the past couple of years and each time I go I enjoy the sweet spirit of the staff and children. My stays are usually 2-3 days and I’ve stayed in the guest/bunk room on the premises.  I enjoy hanging out with them in the courtyard where the kids play soccer, scooter and creative games they come up with.  A few months ago I brought a group of friends down for a day to do some deep cleaning projects around the orphanage.  I was so excited to share this experience with them as I knew they would be blessed by their time spent at COA.  The group also brought an art project which we did with the kids and donations to fill up the freezer and pantry.  Everyone had such a great time and has been asking when we can go again!  I look forward to planning our next trip soon!”

“Hello my name is Reuben. I’m from Pennsylvania and I spent about a month at the City of Angels orphanage. It was a trip I’ll never forget. The staff welcomed me and made me feel at home my first day there. The children are friendly and happy; they love playing games. I can see they are loved and well cared for. I am thankful I had the opportunity to visit and hope to go again!! “

“I recently visited City of Angels for the first time and had the privilege of sharing a few days with the staff and young people. Every staff member was supportive and helpful. They helped us cross the border coming and going, which was a relief, and were attentive to our needs while there. It didn’t take long to make friends and come to an appreciation of the commitment each staff member has toward the mission. Not onlyare they committed, but they are gifted with an ability to meet the mental, physical and spiritual needs of the young people they serve. God is at work there.”
